[Activity Report] IROAST Distinguished Professor László PUSZTAI’s Stay in Kumamoto University

Nov 29, 2024

Dr. László PUSZTAI, IROAST Distinguished Professor, (HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Hungary) completed a 2-week research work with his host faculty member, Associate Professor Yoichi Nakajima (FAST*) in Kumamoto University last week.

Besides offering a lecture at the 136th IROAST seminar held on Nov. 22nd, he visited Shimane University for proceeding his joint research on the 18th of November 2024.
He gave a talk at Shimane University (Matsue Campus) that morning. The event was co-organized by Dr. J. Stellhorn (Co-Creation Institute for Advanced Materials) and Professor K. Ohara (Faculty of Materials for Energy).
The presentation titled 'Understanding structural disorder (in liquids and amorphous and crystalline solids): the Reverse Monte Carlo route' was aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, therefore instead of the latest results, the focus was on the basics.

In the afternoon discussion session, he presented various pieces of related findings, e.g. how Reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) modeling can be applied for finding the correct density of a material.
