(In Germany-2) Visit to the Department of Modern Japanese Studies at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf and Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH, Düsseldorf

IROAST Director Takashi Hiyama met with Professor Shingo Shimada, Dean of the Department of Modern Japanese Studies at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (HHU) on October 10, 2017.

HHU, founded in 1965, now has five faculties (Business Administration and Economics, Arts and Humanities, Law, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Medicine). It also has a University Hospital and Department of Modern Japanese Studies. There are about 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and about 3,300 staff members. HHU and KU signed an international academic and student agreement this year, and Professor Shimada made the major contribution to its conclusion. The Director’s meeting with Professor Shimada this time became another good opportunity to promote their research collaboration.  Director Hiyama also met with JUNO (Junior Scientist and International Researcher Center) staff members from HHU.

In the afternoon of the same day, Director Hiyama visited the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH in Düsseldorf, and met with Prof. Dr. Christina Scheu. The Institute is mainly engaged in fundamental research on materials science, measurement technology, and so on, with over 600 research projects with companies. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, the Institute has excellent researchers and is actively inviting young researchers from other countries, including Japan.
