[Report]Visiting Professor Prof. ELSWORTH stayed for joint research with Dr. SAINOKI on Jan 8-10.

With the support of the “IROAST Visiting Professor and Visiting Associate Professor Invitation Program”, IROAST Visiting Professor Derek ELSWORTH (The Pennsylvania State University, USA) stayed Kumamoto University from Jan. 8-10 in order to promote the joint research with Associate Professor Atsushi SAINOKI (Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Kumamoto University) who are an IROAST International Joint Research Faculty Member .
This visit was the first in about six years since the last visit in February 2018.
Besides he gave a lecture at the 140th IROAST seminar on January 8, he had a meeting with Dr. Sainoki to discuss joint research.
Dr. Adam Karl SCHWARTZKOPFF, a senior lecturer at the University of Western Australia and former IROAST postdoctoral researcher, has also been in Kumamoto University, so they were able to have a discussion together, and they shared ideas and advice from Prof. Elsworth, who has deep insights.
In addition, Prof. Elsworth, together with Dr. Sainoki and Dr. Schwartzkopff, visited Director Takashima of IROAST during his stay. In the presence of Director Takashima, they exchanged the original of laboratory-level memorandum of understanding (MoU) on paper with Dr. Sainoki, which was updated in March 2024.　
It is planned to jointly write and submit papers on the results of the experiments discussed during this visit, and it is expected that they will continue to conduct joint research in the next fiscal year and beyond.
