Our Investigations of CO₂ reduction: Past and Present

The concentration of CO₂ in the atmosphere has reached unprecedented levels and continues to increase owing to an escalating rate of fossil fuel combustion, causing concern about climate change and rising sea levels. In view of the inevitable depletion of fossil fuels, it is important to pursue the recycling of carbon dioxide to fuels and chemicals. We have been studying photochemical CO₂ reduction for over 30 years, mainly using molecular catalysts, focusing on mechanistic and kinetic investigations for the design of catalysts with improved performance. Insights gleaned from our past and present investigations will be presented.
