１０月６日に、木田教授(熊本大学大学院先端科学研究部)とキタイン先生（多言語文化総合教育センター）が世話人となり、第１０１回IROASTセミナーが開催されました。

会場はもとよりオンラインにより学内と海外から教員及び学生が参加しました。

チュラロンコーン大学の　Suttichai Assabumrungrat先生が、「バイオリファイナリーにおけるプロセス集約化とその役割」に関する興味深い講演をおこないました。

On October 6, 2023, the 101st IROAST Seminar, organized by Prof. Tetsuya KIDA (FAST, Kumamoto University) and Prof. Armando T. Quitain (Center for International Education)  was held.

Faculty members and students from both on-campus and overseas participated in the seminar, not only at the venue but also online.

Dr. Suttichai Assabumrungrat, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, gave an interesting lecture on "Process Intensification and Its Role in Biorefinery".

　国際先端科学技術研究機構（IROAST）は、チュラロンコン大学所属、Suttichai Assabumrungrat IROAST客員教授による、第101回IROASTセミナーを下記のとおり開催いたします。興味のある方はどなたでもご参加いただけます。多くの皆さまのご参加をお待ちしております。

  　　　　　　　　　　　  “Process Intensification and Its Role in Biorefinery”

4．概要 (Abstract) ：

 Process intensification is an important strategy for achieving a sustainable production of industry. It involves different approaches such as using multifunctional reactor, hybrid separation, and alternative energy source, and offers potentially dramatic improvements in manufacturing and processing, leading to substantial reduction in equipment size, waste production, and energy consumption. This strategy has been successfully implemented in many processes particularly in chemical and petrochemical industries. Nowadays, the global economy is transforming towards the Bio-Circular-Green Economy for achieving the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). Biorefinery has become an important industry as it enables bioresources especially abundant biomass to be fully utilized to produce different high-value products such as bioenergy, biochemicals, biomaterials and biopharmaceuticals. However, the bio-based products are generally not cost-competitive, and therefore, the implementation of the process intensification concept to biorefinery becomes even more important. This talk will address some key concepts of process intensification, overview of biorefinery, and some case studies.
