10月27日に、木田 徹也 教授(大学院先端科学研究部)とキタイン アルマンド教授（多言語文化総合教育センター）が世話人となり、第104回IROASTセミナーが開催されました。会場はもとよりオンラインにより学内と海外から教員及び学生が参加しました。

バリャドリッド大学のMaria Jose COCERO教授が、持続可能なバイオリファイナリーの開発について、熱可塑性プラスチックや芳香族ポリマーなど様々な製品に活用され、また更なる活用が期待されているリグニンに焦点をあてた興味深い講演をおこないました。

On October 27, 2023, the 104th IROAST Seminar, organized by Prof. Tetsuya KIDA (FAST, Kumamoto University) and Prof. Armando T. QUITAIN (Center for International Education) was held. Faculty members and students from both on-campus and overseas participated in the seminar, not only at the venue but also online.

Prof. Maria Jose COCERO (IROAST Visiting Professor), University of Valladolid, Spain, gave an interesting lecture on sustainable biorefineries focusing on lignin, which is used for various products including thermoplastics and aromatic compounds, and the future potential of lignin.

　国際先端科学技術研究機構（IROAST）は、バリャドリッド大学所属 Maria Jose COCERO教授（IROAST客員教授）による、第104回IROASTセミナーを下記のとおり開催いたします。興味のある方はどなたでもご参加いただけます。多くの皆さまのご参加をお待ちしております。本セミナーは英語にて行います。事前登録は不要です。

　　“Development of Sustainable Biorefineries: Valorization of Lignin”

4．概要（Abstract）：
The development of sustainable biorefineries is based on the use of all fractions of biomass. Lignin is a key fraction of lignocellulosic biomasses, due to the products that can be obtained, from thermoplastics to aromatics. Lignin is an aromatic polymer that is postulated as a source of renewable aromatic compounds. The talk will present the valorization of lignin from lignocellulosic biomass and its depolymerization to aromatics using sub/supercritical water technologies.
