On November 22, 2024, the 135th IROAST Seminar was held under the organization of Prof. Tetsuya Kida (Faculty of Advanced Sciences and Technology), followed by the 134th seminar, and Dr. Tung TRAN, Lecturer and Senior Research Researcher (University of Adelaide, Australia/ Visiting Associate Professor at IROAST) gave a lecture.
Dr. Tung Tran has been conducting outstanding research on chemical devices, especially gas sensors, using two-dimensional materials such as graphene oxide, MXene (Maxine), and boron nitride.
Dr. Tung Tran was appointed as a Visiting Associate Professor at IROAST after his stay at Kumamoto University under the “IROAST Invitation Support Program” last year, which is expected to lead to further collaboration with researchers at the University of Adelaide.
In this seminar, he presented recent advances in 2D and composite materials for chemical sensors, their sensing performance, and state-of-the-art applications, and had lively discussions with our faculty, researchers, and students.

(Speaker & Title):
Dr. Tung Thanh Tran, Senior Researcher at AM2D Research Hub, School of Chemical Engineering, the University of Adelaide (Australia)
“Development of chemical vapor sensors their potential applications”
4.概要(Abstract):
The disruptive chemical sensor technology, currently under development based on sensing, monitoring chemicals and diagnostics, that combining sensors, artificial intelligent (AI) and Internet of things (IoT), is expected to revolutionise for the development of next-generation sensors. These are gaining tremendous attention in both academia and industry because of their broad applications in manufacturing processes, food and environment control, medicine, disease diagnostics, security and defence, aerospace and so forth. Current challenges include the development of low cost, ultrahigh sensitive and user friendly sensors which have high selectivity, fast response and recovery times and small dimensions. The critical demands of these new sensors are typically associated with advanced nanoscale sensing materials. Among them, 2D materials and their composites have demonstrated the ideal properties to overcome these challenges and merged as one of the most popular sensing platforms for diverse potential applications. In this lecture, I present and discuss recent advances in 2D and their composite for chemical sensors, their sensing performance, and the state-of-the-art applications.
