On January 23, the opening session was held for the “JST Sakura Science Exchange Program”, conducted by Associate Professor Gaochuang CAI (IROAST), inviting nine participants from City, University of London (UK) and National School of Engineers of Saint-Etienne (ENISE), University of Lyon (France).
The opening session was attended by the participants as well as Japanese and international students from Assoc. Prof. Cai’s lab., who are assisting in this program.
After brief introduction of the program by Assoc. Prof. CAI, Director TAKASHIMA gave a welcome message and briefly introduced Kumamoto University and explained the activities and achievement of IROAST.
Then, Dr. Amir SI LARBI (Professor, ENISE, University of Lyon / IROAST Visiting Professor) and Dr. Konstantinos Daniel TSAVDARIDIS (Professor, School of Science and Technology, City, University of London) introduced their respective universities.
During this one-week stay, the participants will attend lectures focusing technology and theory of elastic restoration of buildings, observe the seismic resistance of wooden structures, such as Kumamoto Castle, and the seismic isolation technology of Japanese construction, take a field trip to Mt. Aso, and interact with students of Kumamoto University.
