Nine participants joined from the U.K. and France visited IROAST under the JST Sakura Science Exchange Program

　The International Research Organization for Advanced Science and Technology (IROAST) invited six graduate students and three faculty members from the City University of London in the UK and the University of Lyon in France from January 22 to 28 under the "Sakura Science Exchange Program" by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
　The participants learned about earthquake-resistant and seismic isolation technologies for buildings in the Kumamoto region through lectures at Kumamoto University, observation of construction work on high-rise buildings, and a tour of the area after the Kumamoto earthquake disaster. The participants also deepened their exchanges through discussions and social events with our university students and experienced the magnificent scenery of Mt. Aso area and Japanese culture. The participants commented that it was a very meaningful experience and a fulfilling week.

　国際先端科学技術研究機構（IROAST）では、1月22日から28日まで、科学技術振興機構（JST）が実施する交流事業である「さくらサイエンスプログラム」により、イギリスのロンドン大学シティ校及びフランスのリヨン大学から6名の大学院生と3名の教員を招待しました。
　参加者は、熊本大学での講義や高層建築物の建築工事の見学、熊本地震震災遺構の見学などを通して、熊本地域における建築物の耐震・免震技術について学びました。また、本学学生とのディスカッションや交流会で交流を深めたり、雄大な阿蘇の景観や文化にも触れたりと、参加者からは大変有意義な経験だったとの感想が述べられました。
