2023年11月15日、高藤誠教授（大学院先端科学研究部）が世話人となり、ジョセフ　バローナ先生（スペイン・バレンシア大学教授／IROAST客員教授）をお迎えし第107回IROASTセミナーを開催しました。
バローナ先生と高藤先生は長年の共同研究者であり、バローナ先生には長年にわたり本学に講義にお越しいただいています。多くの教職員や学生が参加した今回のセミナーで、バローナ先生は、ヘルスケアの分野から、いま社会問題となっているAIに焦点を当てました。

今回の滞在では、高藤研とバローナ先生の研究グループの共同研究や今後の交流計画について打合せが行われる予定です。
バレンシア大学と本学は、学術交流協定を長年にわたって継続しており、今回の招へいを機に両大学との交流がさらに加速することが期待されます。

 On November 15, 2023, the 107th IROAST Seminar, hosted by Prof. Makoto TAKAFUJI (FAST), was held with Dr. Josep BARONA (Professor, University of Valencia, Spain / IROAST Visiting Professor).
 Dr. BARONA and Dr. TAKAFUJI have been longtime collaborators, and Dr. BARONA has been coming to our University to give lectures for many years. In this seminar, which was attended by many faculty members and students, Dr. BARONA focused on AI, which is now a hot social issue, from the field of healthcare.

During this stay, the TAKAFUJI Lab and Dr. BARONA's research group will hold a meeting to discuss joint research and future exchange plans.
The University of Valencia and Kumamoto University have had an academic exchange agreement for many years, and it is expected that this invitation will further accelerate exchanges between the two universities.

4．講演概要（Abstract）
　　Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the ability of algorithms to learn from data, performing automated tasks without having to be programmed explicitly by a human in each step of the process. The seminar-lecture discusses the dimensions of AI paying special attention to its use un healthcare: fields of application, and principal contributions for clinical practice, biomedical research, public health and administration. It deals with the types of AI relevant to healthcare, possible contributions. risks and policy options. It aims to awake awareness and critical approach to the capacities and social uses of AI.
