Dr. Armando T. QUITAIN, an IROAST Young Faculty Member for International Joint Research, is currently doing collaborative research in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at Valladolid University, under the supervision of Prof. Maria Jose Cocero of the High Pressure Processes Group. He is working on the elucidation of the reaction mechanism of hydrolysis of bioflavonoids into aglycones by removing the sugar moieties taking place under a pressurized mixed H2O-CO2 system using Raman spectroscopy, and an advanced sample loading mechanism in a high pressure view-cell.
Two of his students (under the TOBITATE Ryugaku Japan Young Ambassador Program and GSST Overseas Internship Program) also join him to investigate the mechanism underlying graphene oxide-based catalyzed reactions of: [1]cellulose in synergy with microwaves, and [2] acetylation of limonene in supercritical CO2.
