Greeting from the Director

The International Research Organization for Advanced Science and Technology (IROAST) commenced its second phase of activities in the fiscal year 2022. In this phase, while acquiring the robust international collaborative research network and tenure track system established in the first phase, IROAST aims to expand its presence by introducing new support initiatives. In particular, it has prioritized areas that contribute to the establishment of a society that promotes well-being, including biomedicine, low environmental impact, biological environmental science, and resilience enhancement. Additionally, it is increasing efforts in data science, encompassing advanced materials and AI, to support these research areas. Furthermore, initiatives to support young researchers who are expected to play a significant role on the global stage in the future are underway.

This annual report has been created to present IROAST’s activities in the fiscal year 2023. We sincerely hope that you will take the time to read it and would highly appreciate your feedback or comments. We continue to request your valuable support for IROAST’s activities.

国際先端科学技術研究機構(IROAST)は、2022年度（令和4年度）より第2フェーズの活動を開始しました。第2フェーズでは、第1フェーズで構築した堅固な国際共同研究ネットワークやテニュアトラックの運営を継承しつつ、新たな支援事業への展開を目指しています。特に、Well-being社会構築に寄与する重点領域（バイオ・医療、低環境負荷、生物環境学、レジリエンス強化）を設定し、これらの研究を支える先進材料やAIを含むデータサイエンスへの取組みも推進しています。さらに、将来世界的に活躍が期待できる若手研究者を支援する取組みも行っています。本年次報告書は、2023年度（令和5年度）のIROASTの活動を紹介するために作成しました。ぜひ、ご一読いただき、ご意見やご感想をお寄せいただければ幸いです。引き続きIROASTの活動へのご支援を心よりお願い申し上げます。
